In Jewish law, only the High Priest wore a seamless tunic. Jesus’s tunic was seamless and this is in furtherance of the truth that He is indeed our great High Priest.

Prophecy: – “They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” Psalm 22:18

Fulfillment: – “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one place. They said therefore among themselves, “Let us not tear it but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the scriptures might be fulfilled.” John 19:23-24

The mention of the garment tells us the Jesus was acting as High Priest. The High Priest wore such a garment at Passover. In fact, without the garment, the priest was not fit to serve; it was compulsory.

The High Priest in performing his duties at the Passover must have a lamb to offer. So Jesus is both the Lamb and the High Priest who offers the Lamb (Himself) as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.

Jesus, our great High Priest was not sacrificed for the sins of Christians; He was sacrificed for the sins of the whole world and whosoever believes in this sacrifice for sins is declared righteous before God.

Unlike the High Priests under the Levitical priesthood who were men like us and also died, our great High Priest is forever righteous, has an endless life and God rates us based on the performance of our great High Priest.

Point to Ponder: – So Jesus is both the Lamb and the High Priest who offers the Lamb (Himself) as a sacrifice for the sins of the world..

Verse to remember: – “So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.” Hebrews 10:28

Question to consider: – What is the benefit of Jesus being our High Priest?

Declaration: – Thank you Jesus for the finished work of the cross.
